Protocol SMTP

what is ftp

SMTP is a standard protocol that allows you to send and receive electronic mails. It is easy to use and supported by all major email clients. It includes line-by–line transmission. The protocol also has an end-of–data sequence. This consists of a complete stop and a new-line. A line within the message body must contain a period. If this happens, the client sends two periods (or more) to the server. This replaces one of the periods. This is called "dot stuffing".

Message ID

SMTP uses a identifier message to identify the original message. The identifier must support the msg_id specification format and be machine-readable. The identifier is typically a word or phrase that summarises the message and lets the receiver know what it is about. A message identifier may also include a text comment.

Message body

The Protocol SMTP Message bodies are made up of several parts. The first is the header line. The SMTP header line is a readable string of text that contains a keyword, followed by a colon, and a value. Some header keywords are mandatory while others are optional. The SMTP header line should contain a To/From line and a Subject. The SMTP header is part and parcel of the actual mail message. This is different than SMTP commands.

RCPT command

A mail relay host is identified by the RCPT command for protocol SMTP. This relay host seeks permission from the server before transferring the message. A 354 response codes is typically an indication that permission has been granted. Once permission has been granted, the sender will begin to transfer the mail line by line. The recipient SMTP server inserts the contents of the message into the recipient's mailbox.

DATA command

In the protocol Smtp, the DATA command signals the beginning of a message. The message consists of a header as well as a body. The server will reply with a 250 response code if the message has gone through successfully.

QUIT command

Sending a QUIT command can be used to end a session with SMTP. SMTP servers detect the QUIT command. They will send a 221-word "goodbye" message. This message terminates the TCP communication between the sending device, and the receiving device.

RCPT

The RCPT protocol is used to send SMS messages via the Internet. This protocol uses RFC822 to encode the content of an SMS message. It also requires a minimum of 256 bytes. Each SMS message must contain no more than 160 characters at 7-bits and 70 Unicode symbols. However, there are ways to send longer messages. First, split the message in smaller parts. The text message must then be encrypted.

DATA

The DATA command activates the transmission of your mail message body. The message is then transmitted line by line to its destination. A single line can be included in the message body that contains only a period. This is also known as dot stuffing. When a client sends two periods, the server responds with one period.
